I think it’s safe to say that we’re never going to win any prizes for most attractive Concrete Structures here at Blockwalls, but as Concrete gets such a bad rap across the media, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some absolutely stunning Architecture made from our favourite material. Concrete.
Diego Portales University Campus, Chile
The first building which has made our top 5 for its sheer determination, not to look like most other Concrete Buildings out there, and has very much been modelled on a Cardboard box is the Diego Portales University campus. The Chilean architects incorporated green space, gardens and living walls into the Fortified Concrete buildings.

Selvika National Tourist Route, Finnmark, Norway
Our second building is on the other side of the world in Scandinavia however just as breath-taking in many ways. The goal for the architects in Norway was quite simple. To magnify and single out the experience of walking from the roadside to the seaside at a popular and special location. By making the users slow down the aim was to increase the awareness of the users to fully appreciate the beauty of the landscape, and we think they have done it rather beautifully.

MuCEM, Marseilles, France
For sheer elegance and grace, we have opted to include Rudy Ricciottis new museum of Mediterranean civilisation. Built to coincide with Marseilles being awarded 2013 European Capital Of Culture, the building cost over 191M Euros, and dominates the Marseilles waterfront. Absolutely spectacular architecture

Sunset Chapel, Acapulco, Mexico
Created to celebrate both the first day of a couple’s life together, and to mourn the passing of a loved one, this Chapel in Mexico is a design full of opposites. The Chapel was erected to take full advantage of the stunning views, whilst also ensuring that the sun set exactly behind the altar cross. No mean feat, but it looks absolutely spectacular

The Lotus Temple, India
The Lotus Temple in India is an amazing piece of modern architecture, and took over 10 years to design and then build. It is widely believed that the Temple is one of the most complicated Concrete structures in the world and took a work force of 800 people to complete.
